Eni Thinks the Acquisition of First Calgary Petroleums Will Increase its Proven and Probable Reserves by 190 Million BOE

The acquisition of First Calgary Petroleums Ltd. (FCPL) by Eni, which was announced on 8 September, will enable the Italian energy group to strengthen its already very substantial positions in Algeria. Eni estimates that the takeover will increase its proven and probable hydrocarbon reserves in the country by 190 million barrels of oil equivalent (boe). FCPL is operator of Block 405b in the Berkine basin (see map below) with a 75% interest and has made several discoveries there, especially of natural gas. The resources so far discovered on the tract are estimated by Eni at over 1.3 billion boe, half of which is of natural gas.
