Petro-Canada Has Reportedly Agreed to Acquire a 90% Interest in Marathon's DPSA

Petro-Canada has reportedly agreed to acquire 90% of the interest of Marathon Oil Corporation in the development and production-sharing agreement(DPSA)signed by the U.S.company in May with Syrian Petroleum Company(SPC)and Syrian Gas Company(SGC)for the Cherrife oil field and the Ash Shaer gas field,which it discovered in 1982 and 1985 respectively,according to"Syrian economic sources"quoted by the Saudi newspaper Al-Hayat.The DPSA gives Marathon the right to resell part or all of its interests in these two fields,according to Marathon's Media Relations Manager,Mr.Paul Weeditz."It is still too early to say when development work could start,but under the terms of the new contract,we have the possibility of selling part or all of our interests in the field if we choose to do so,"he said.
