The UK would seek to negotiate a veterinary deal with the EU to ease trade in livestock products between Britain and the rest of Europe under a Labour government, according to the party's leader Sir Keir Starmer. Speaking at the National Farmers Union's (NFU) annual conference in Birmingham today, Starmer also pledged to maintain the 'agricultural transition' which will see CAP-style direct payments phased out by the end of 2027, and replaced with Environmental Land Management (ELM) contracts.
