The decision by the US government to impose punitive tariffs on imports of steel was expected to unsettle the market. Six weeks on, the effects have been quite remarkable. A much more positive tone has developed in the flat products segment. Global steel prices have moved upwards over the last three months. Our World Transaction Price for hot rolled coil has increased by 19 percent from its, all time, low point in January. The rise in cold rolled has been 14 percent.
