The production of the Libyan Iron and Steel Company during the first nine months of this year-amounted to 439328 tons of long products against to 403647 tons during the same period of 2007, i.e., up by a growth rate of 8.7 percent. The company's production of reinforcing steel amounting to 324 thousand tons against 315 thousand tons during the same period of 2007 achieved a growth rate of 2.8 percent, while production of rods achieved a growth rate of 55 percent. As a result of this increase of production of long products, the volume of imports of the reinforcing steel (bars and rods) dropped to 92 thousand tons compared to 209 thousand tons in the first nine months of 2007, making a fall of 55.7 percent.
