The agricultural sector continues to occupy an important place in the Tunisian economy, generating over 10% of gross domestic product (GDP) and contributing actively to the creation of employment and balance-of payment through exports, most obviouslyin its major role in ensuring the country's food security. Agriculture contributes up to 12% on average in GDP and employs about 18% of the labor force total. Under a Mediterranean climate, mild winters and sunny, mild spring and autumn and rainy, Tunisia, the birthplace of many vegetable species grown naturally, produces a wide range of products. Vegetable crops cover about 150,000 ha / year and are spread over 90 thousand farms that provide the country an average of 2.7 million tonnes of vegetables per year. This allows production to supply the local market, and generate a quantity for export to around 33 thousand tons / year. Besides the country's soil and climate conditions and factors in order to improve investment in the agricultural sector in Tunisia, the state has made major efforts in improving the quality of generic and specific agricultural products in general and vegetable products in particular.
