Tehran Announces the Signing of an Agreement with a UAE-Based Company for the Import of Iranian Gas

On three occasions in the space of three days, between 15 and 17 August, Iran commented on its agreement with Sharjah-based Crescent Petroleum for the export of natural gas by pipeline to the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Crescent recently indicated that it was going to submit the dispute over its gas contract with National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) to international arbitration, after its customers in the UAE called on it to execute its gas supply agreements with them, which were due to take effect three and a half years ago. The Managing Director of NIOC, Mr. Seifollah Jashnaz, retorted that the contract would only be implemented if it served Iran's national interests.
