Net Budget Surplus Amounted to $12.4 Billion in the First Five Months of Fiscal 2009-10

With oil revenues having amounted to KD 6.24 billion ($21.7 billion) in the first five months of Kuwait's 2009-2010 fiscal year (which started on 1 April), compared with a forecast of KD 6.92 billion for the year as a whole, Kuwait's state budget showed a net surplus of KD 3.58 billion ($12.4 billion) during the period, following the transfer of 10% of total budgetary receipts to the Reserve Fund for Future Generations (RFFG). Total receipts amounted to KD 6.64 billion, as against a forecast for the full year of KD 8.08 billion. With expenditure having totaled KD 2.39 billion between April and August (compared with an estimate for the year of KD 12.12 billion), the gross surplus came out at KD 4.25 billion, according to the latest figures of the Ministry of Finance.
