Expansion of SEC's Power Generation Capacity Will Require Investments of 50.7 Billion

Saudi Electricity Company (SEC) has drawn up an investment program totaling SR 190 billion (50.7 billion) over the next 10 years for increasing the generation capacity of its power stations.They had total capacity of 31,000 MW in 2006,divided among 70 plants,while national consumption amounted to 29,900 MW,the SEC indicates on its web site.The company anticipates that the Saudi population will grow from 23.7 million in 2006 to 50 million in 2024,which will bring an increase in power demand to 70,000 MW.
