Qatargas Studying Plans for Doubling the Condensate Processing Capacity of the Laffan Refinery to 292,000 B/D

On the occasion of a ceremony to mark the start of construction work on the Ras Laffan condensate refinery,which is due to have a capacity of 146,000 b/d,the Vice-President and Chief Executive Officer of Qatargas,Mr.Faisal al-Suwaidi,indicated that the company was to submit a study to Qatar Petroleum (QP) on the integration of a second condensate processing train at the plant with the same capacity as the first.Known as the Laffan Refinery (LR),the plant is costing an estimated 800 million and is scheduled for completion in mid-2008.Mr.al-Suwaidi pointed out that,with the increase in the country's liquefied natural gas (LNG) production capacity to 77 million tons/year by 2012,condensate output would rise to 700,000 b/d.
