Companies and Consortia Prequalified for the al-Zour Refinery Must Submit Their Bids in the Fourth Quarter

In an advertisement that appeared in the local newspaper al Qabas, Kuwait National Petroleum Company (KNPC) announced the names of the companies and consortia that are prequalified for four of the five works packages comprising the project for the construction of a refinery at al-Zour, which is to have a capacity of 615,000 bid. The companies will have to submit their bids in the fourth quarter. As regards the fifth package, which covers the utilities and offsites, KNPC is reportedly still negotiating with Fluor Corporation, the PMC (project management) and FEED (front-end engineering and design) contractor, according to sources quoted by Reuters (for the details, see AOG, 1 Sept., 2007). A spokesman for KNPC nevertheless maintained that this package was still being studied and that bids from several companies were being taken into consideration.
