RLOC Steam Cracker and Qatofin LLDPE Plant Will Not Be Operating at Full Capacity Until Mid-2011

The 1.3-million ton/year steam cracker of Ras Laffan Olefins Company (RLOC), which was officially inaugurated on 4 May (AOG, 16 May, 2010), and the 450,000-ton/year linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE) plant of Qatofin will be operating at full capacity by the middle of 2011, Industries Qatar (IQ) indicates in a report on its activities in the first half of this year. RLOC is a joint venture between Q-Chem II (53.3%), Qatofin (45.7%) and Qatar Petroleum (QP - 1%), while Qatofin is a joint venture between Qatar Petrochemical Company (Qapco - 63%), Total Petrochemicals (36%) and QP (1%). IQ explains that the RLOC cracker is operating at less than full capacity and that production is expected to continue at the current rate until the end of the year "due to technical problems and not to issues with feedstocks or other demand-related problems."
