The success of Iraq's two international bid rounds has created considerable uncertainty about the outcome of bilateral negotiations being held with foreign companies for the development of other fields. An official at the Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) told Dow Jones Newszoires that the Japanese government was concerned about the future of talks between the Iraqi Oil Ministry and a Japanese consortium led by Nippon Oil over the Nassiriyah field.
