摘要

Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company (GPIC) commissioned a carbon dioxide (CO2) recovery unit at its complex in Sitra in January, thus becoming the first petrochemical producer in the Middle East to start recycling its carbon emissions, as Sheikh Isa bin AH al-Khalifa, Chairman of GPIC and advisor to the Prime Minister on oil and industrial affairs, pointed out on that occasion. The CO2 recovery unit has a capacity of 450 tons/hour. The carbon dioxide will be used as a feedstock in the synthesis processed utilized by GPIC for the production of urea and methanol, and it will increase the production capacity of these units by 200 tons/day. The unit was built in 27 months at a cost of $55 million by a consortium composed of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries of Japan and Tecnimont of Italy, in association with the local firm MCSC.
