France's Areva to Supply Nuclear Fuel for a Research Reactor in Jordan

The French company Areva has won a contract from a South Korean consortium composed of Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute (KAERI) and Daewoo for the supply of nuclear fuel for the Jordan Research and Training Reactor (JRTR) that is currently under construction in the country. The agreement covers the supply of nuclear fuel for the first reactor core and a reload batch. Areva indicated that the fuel elements were due to start being delivered in 2015. The JRTR reactor will have a capacity of 5 MW that could later be doubled to 10 MW. It will be used for neutron beam research, neutron irradiation services such as medical radioisotope production, and training of Jordanian engineers and scientists.
