Around 70 Wells to Be Drilled at Rumaila in 2010

BP and its associates have started work on the redevelopment of the Rumaila field by awarding the main drilling contracts at the end of March. Seven additional drilling rigs will be deployed at the field starting in the second half of this year. The British company plans to have some 70 wells drilled at Rumaila during the course of 2010. BP and China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) were contracted to redevelop Rumaila following the first international bid round that closed in June 2009 and have undertaken to step up production at Iraq's largest oil field to 2.85 million b/d during the second half of this decade, as against a little over 1 million b/d at the moment.
