The Energy Information Administration reported total US coal production for the week ended Aug. 25 was the same as the prior week, coming in again at 22.6 million tons. The tally for the just-reported week is 1.0pc higher than the same week in 2006, but year-to-date tonnage is 2.1pc off from the 758 million tons produced nationwide by this time last year.
