PRB mostly flat as stockpiles fall

Powder River basin (PRB) coal prices held mostly steady this week as the market absorbed its recent large gains. The prompt quarter settled at 14.70 dollars /short ton, up by nearly 1 dollars from its 1 July settlement but just 10 cents above last week. Deals were done at about 15 dollars /st for the front half of 2012 and in the mid-16s dollars for the front half of 2013, suggesting the market was flat with last week at the front of the curve and sagged slightly at the back.
