The method involves coiling a flat, sheet-like semi-finished product around a take-off reel (10) with roll cores (12) symmetric to semi-major axes of different dimension, where the axes are perpendicular to each other and are non-circular in cross-section. The reel is aligned after the coiling of the semi-finished product on the cores and before winding up of the product, where larger of the major axes run parallel to horizontals. The reel is arranged with the product in a bearing and/or transport cradle.
