Blizzards hamper production in West

Coal production in Western states, namely Wyoming, fell significantly in the week ended March 28, pulling national production to 19.7 million tons, down from 22.4 million tons in the previous week. The region, wracked by blizzards and severe winter weather that halted trains, produced 10.9 million tons for the week, down 17.5pc from the prior week, and down 16.2pc from the same time last year.
