Carnival Corporation of the US has more European tonnage on order than any other owner. Carnival's brand subsidiary Costa Cruises has the 13th and 14th members of its fleet scheduled for completion in April and May this year. Costa Luminosa and Costa Pacifica have been built by Fincantieri in Italy at the Marghera (Venice) and Sestri (Genoa) shipyards respectively. The vessels, which cost around ?900M ($ 1.16Bn), left the yards for sea trials, which included tests for the vessels' resistance to sailing at maximum speed for eight hours, a crash stop from top speed and a power blackout to confirm that systems are able to restart correctly in an emergency. Luminosa and Pacifica will be christened on 5 June 2009.Their launch will be followed next year by that of Luminosa's sister ship, Costa Deliziosa, which is to be delivered in January 2010. All are Italian-flagged and are classed by Registro Italiano Navale.
