Fleas and ticks in pets- prevention and management

FLEAS are highly prevalent on domestic cats and dogs, with 28.1 per cent of cats and 14.4 per cent of dogs found to be infested in the UK (Abdullah et al, 2019).They are small, wingless insects that form the order Siphonaptera and are approximately 1mm to 8mm in length, with back legs that are modified for jumping, enabling them to jump up to 200 times their own height. They are external, permanent parasites that are able to complete their life cycle without leaving their host.
