Top spot puts China under scrutiny

As China moves into the top position in terms of tonnage on order, the country's newbuilding quality came with some cautionary advice last month from Peter Broad, global client relationship manager for the UK-based consultant and survey company BMT. Speaking in a personal capacity, he told members of the Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology (IMarEST) in London that they should "exercise caution when buying a second-hand Chinese ship" and predicted that "you will experience difficulties with a Chinese build....We see the insurance claims."
