CSAV eyes giant box ships

Chilean container line CSAV has invited eight Asian shipbuilders to tender to build 10 box ships of 10,000teu. Solutions understands that five South Korean yards, two Chinese shipbuilders and one Japanese yard are among the bidders. Executives at Hyundai Heavy Industries, South Korea's biggest shipbuilder, have confirmed that it will be bidding for the job. Broking sources indicated that other leading Korean yards would be bidding. CSAV owns 18 ships, of which the largest are 8,000teu types.
