IMCA warns of PLC problems

An information note on programmable logic controllers (PLCs) has been issued by the International Marine Contractors Association (IMCA). It highlights the importance of carrying out an FMEA (failure modes and effects analysis) and testing the components and complete systems to help ensure operation and failure modes are understood. PLCs are widely used in equipment on marine construction vessels, including cranes and winches.
