摘要

Japan’s proposed 2030 power fuel mix target represents a definite return to nuclear power, further proof that premier Shinzo Abe will force through reactor restarts to help revive the economy despite public opposition. But it is also shows the country’s fossil fuel dependence will remain high, with Tokyo to continue making efforts to reduce its import costs. The trade and industry ministry (Meti) today presented a draft of the country’s 2030 power fuel mix for further scrutiny within the government and the ruling coalition. The draft proposal positioned LNG as the biggest power generation fuel source at 27pc of electricity output in 2030, followed close behind by coal at 26pc. Japan plans to be 56pc dependent on thermal power in 2030, with oil to generate 3pc of its total electricity output.
