New Jersey governor Chris Christie said he has a deal with Democratic lawmakers to increase the state's gasoline taxes by 23￠/USG, the first such tax increase the state has seen in 28 years. The governor said he will be reauthorizing the state's Transportation Trust Fund at $2bn a year, resulting in $32bn to be invested in the state’s infrastructure over the next 8 years. Currently, New Jersey has the second-lowest gasoline taxes in the country at 32.9￠/USG - comprised of a 14.5￠/USG state tax and 18.4￠/USG federal tax.
