Rates stabilised between Asia and Europe

The latest data revealed by ocean carriers through Container Trade Statistics shows that freight rates from Asia to Europe remained stable in May, despite the numerous rate restoration and surcharge increases announced at the beginning of Q2 10. The average all-in freight rate of all carriers for the month was 14% higher than the average for the whole of 2008, compared to 16% higher in April, 17% in March, 15% in February and 3% in January (see graph). There was not much to choose between the rate changes to northern Europe and the Mediterranean.
