摘要

A human antiviral has offered hope in the treatment of feline infectious peritonitis (FIP), which is a disease estimated to kill up to 1.4% of cats globally.GS-441524 is the parent nucleoside of GS-5374 - an antiviral used against emerging viruses in humans. The small molecule human antiviral has gained positive results in an experimental FIP study and opened a path for a field trial in cats with naturally occurring FIP. The study was led by Professor Niels Pedersen of the University of California, Davis. Involved in the study were 31 cats, ranging in age from 3-73 months. Of the cats, 26 completed the planned 12-week study with the remaining five dying orbeing euthanized due to the disease.
