The important matterof obtaining high quality routine data to monitorthe safety of devices and procedures is worthy of urgent action and debate.Device tracking is certainly a start. All devices should be bar coded. For inpatients, the barcode should be scanned and added to the procedure (or a new) field in the computerised data.
