HSL urges employers to get a grip

The Health and Safety Laboratory (HSL) has published the initial 2015 ratings for its GRIP scheme that helps employers choose the correct level of slip resistance for their employees. The HSL, which is an agency of the HSE, points out that slips, trips and falls cause 56% of all major injuries and 27% of over-seven-day injuries to employees, leading to two million lost working days a year. Using GRIP will reduce the number of such injuries and save businesses the-costs of slip-related absence, which it claims is "a major financial burden to businesses". The GRIP scheme is also beneficial to manufacturers as it allows them to clearly show the different levels of slip resistance at point of sale, improve slip resistance during the design and development process, and gain a competitive advantage over non-rated footwear.
