MEPs back Kozloduy aid

Members of the European Parliament's energy committee said January 27 that they were broadly in favor of extending financial aid to Bulgaria for the decommissioning of units 1 to 4 of the Kozloduy Nuclear Power Plant. Bulgaria committed to decommission Kozloduy before it joined the EU in 2007 but financial support it has received from the EU expired at end 2009. German green MEP Rebecca Harms who is serving as the parliament's rapporteur on nuclear decommissioning in Bulgaria, Lithuania and Slovakia said she supported a draft regulation from the European Commission to extend financial aid to 2013.
