TRANSIT OF CONTAINERS THROUGH UKRAINE

The material is dedicated to the development of Ukrainian seaports capacities on processing of container shipments. According to the results of 2002 volumes of container transshipments through the ports of Ukraine increased by 25.7 percent and reached 2,246 mn tons. Six out of nineteen seaports of Ukraine carry out processing of container shipments. 92.5 percent of the total container volume goes through Odessa and Illychevsk ports herewith. The former augmented volumes of container transshipments by 42 percent last year, while the latter increased the results by 31 percent. The article contains information on potential of these two ports to transship containers and projects to expand transshipping capacities. As a result of these plans' accomplishment carrying capacity of Odessa port would increase from 100 to 120 ths. conditional containers per year, while that of Illychevsk port would nearly triple.
