U.S. Firm Sues Chinese Government, Nine Firms For Software Copyright Infringement

A U.S. software company has sued the Chinese government, two Chinese software manufacturers, and seven international companies over alleged copyright and trade secrets infringement involving a web content censoring program that sparked U.S.China trade tensions last year (CYBERsitter LLC v. Santa Barbara, Calif.-based CYBERsitter LLC, which also does business as Solid Oak Software, filed the $2.2 billion claim in federal court in Los Angeles Jan. 5, according to a news release from the family-owned company. The complaint alleges that the makers of China's Green Dam Youth Escort software directly stole 3,000 lines of code from CYBERsitter's content filtering software "and conspired with the Chinese government and computer manufacturers, to distribute over 56 million copies of the infringing software throughout China and to Chinese speakers globally."
