Will Natural Gas Replace Oil?

As we all know, the world's oil will be peaking within the next few years and, at current levels of consumption, we can expect to run out of oil in the 2040s. Apart from renewable sources and nuclear energy which can produce a limited amount of electricity but require a large investment (so far wind and biofuel have contributed less than 2% of total global electricity production) the most immediately available replacement for oil, requiring the least change of equipment, is natural gas which already is currently being used.
