UPM planning to produce more pulp in Kymi

UPM-Kymmene Corp. is enlarging the pulp capacity at its Kymi facility in Finland. According to the company, the purpose of the expansion is to strengthen its position as a supplier of market pulp and to increase the scale of its deliveries to manufacturers of tissue, speciality paper, and board.The annual production capacity is planned to be raised by 170,000t to 700,000 tpy of northern bleached softwood pulp and birch pulp. UPM says the investment project costing ?160m is to be launched immediately. A new pulp drying machine is to be installed, and the softwood pulp manufacturing line will be updated. UPM will also be investing in a new debarking plant and taking steps to improve the integrated facility's energy balance. The company expects the measures to be completed in the fourth quarter of 2015.
