Gibraltar, a small overseas - territory of the United Kingdom in southern Europe, has an excellent climate for growing succulents. Although the conditions are more humid than commonly encountered by these plants in the wild, the mild winters and seasonally warm and dry conditions allow a huge range ofspecies to be grown outdoors. The living collections at Gibraltar Botanic Gardens (GBG) are being developed to take advantage of this and now include a substantial arid collection of over 1,400 taxa in 220 genera and 21 families.
