Despite major Australian producers' talk of reigning in production due to an oversupplied market, the latest quarterly combined production figures from two of the four major miners - Rio Tinto and BHP Billiton - show an actual increase in production for the first six months of the year. Combined Australian production for the June quarter was up 500,000 mt to 8.8 million mt, compared to the previous corresponding period, and combined Australian production for the first six months of the year showed a larger increase of 1.3 million mt up to 17.9 million mt.
