Al starts a Serbian project

The completion of an AI centre for 20 boars in Serbia opens a project in which the first phase is aimed at producing 30 000 pigs/year. Maps of central and eastern Europe show Srbija and CrnaGora standing between Romania and the Adriatic Sea. To the world at large these places are better known as Serbia and Montenegro, neighbouring states in a union formally proclaimed as recently as February 2003 to replace the former federal republic of Yugoslavia. At present they differ from several other countriesregionally in the fact that they are not immediate candidates to join the European Union, although the Montenegrin administration has already adopted the Euro as its currency. The data available on their pigmeat sectors suggest they would have ranked above at least half of the new EU members both for production and for per-person annual consumption of pork.
