How big is a ball of string? That seems to be the reply from US entrepreneur Dr. Wayne Dorband of Loveland, Colorado, and his colleague Bevan Suits of Decatur, Georgia, when you ask just how big their proposed inland fish-and-vegetables farm productsprogram could be. The twosome are the lead spokespersons for a small group of individuals who have collected a massive inventory of disused, abandoned and partially-used industrial factories, military bases and warehouses. The long-term plan, says Dorband, is to make the buildings into a nation-wide, mass-production aquaponic fish-and-vegetable production network which would use vermiculture, water-recirculation and other sustainable methods to aid the US public in its search for local farm product andfish grown closer to home.
