Seroprevalence of Newcastle disease antibodies in broilers and layers.

Newcastle disease is one of the dangerous illnesses that cause a great loss in chickens sector in all countries. Immunization versus Newcastle disease is one of the chief controller ways in places with prevalent incidence of this virus. In Iraq the indirect ELISA method were used for the recognition of antibodies. Therefore, the purpose of this project was to see if a vaccination interval under field circumstances results in enough seroconversion to safeguard commercial individuals. One hundred eleven serum samples were collected randomly from two farms with a history of vaccination, which included: fifty-six broilers and fifty five layer chickens. Seventy-one percent of sera of broiler group and ninety-one percent of sera of egg layer group were positive by ELISA test. Also, immunity against Newcastle disease in layers was better than in broilers during the period of study at 95% confidence level. In conclusion, there is a considerable titer of antibodies in broiler and layer chickens after vaccination, and the age of the bird has a great effect on the level of immune response. At the same time, it is necessary to husband the birds according to the guidelines of the production company and avoid any stress.
