New EU climate targets spark economic fears from agriculture ministers

Several EU farming ministers fear the EU’s binding target to achieve climate-neutrality by 2050 will undermine the competitiveness of the bloc’s agriculture sector. On 12 October, the Council of EU farming ministers discussed the potential contribution of the agriculture and forestry sectors to the new Fit for 55 package, which also commits to reducing greenhouse gas emissions by at least 55% by 2030.
