Fresh Russian coal sales to Asia-Pacific

Russian producers sold several thermal coal cargoes to con- sumers in Asia-Pacific in the first half of March, demonstrat- ing high trading activity in the region and a further weaken- ing of prices for Russian high-grade coal. A large Russian coal supplier sold 80,000t, equivalent to a Panamax cargo, of thermal coal to Taiwanese firm Formosa Plastics Group (FPG) through a tender that closed on 12 March. The cargo was sold for April loading at a fixed price of about $79.50/t fob Vostochny on a GAR 6,300 kcal/ kg basis — about 6,000 kcal/kg on a NAR basis. Another large Russian coal supplier also offered coal at this tender, but the offer price was about $2.00-2.50/t higher.
