South Korean utility buys Russian coal

South Korean state-run power firm Korea East West Power procured 1.12mn t of Russian thermal coal last month under two tenders that closed on 21 December. The trades demon- strated strengthening Russian values in the region. In the first tender, the utility purchased 560,000t of Russian high-grade product from traders Carbo One and Glencore at a fixed price of $95-98/t on a fob Vostochny NAR 6,080 kcal/kg basis. The coal should be delivered to South Korea between 22 March and 11 June. Each supplier will deliver two 140,000t Capesize cargoes. The utility was seeking material with a minimum calorific value (CV) of NAR 5,900 kcal/kg.
