Russian coal in demand in South Korea

Russian suppliers have intensified coal sales to Asia-Pacific, as prices in the region are at a premium of about $15-18/t to European bids. An international trader sold Russian coal to South Korean state-owned utility Korea Southern Power (Kospo) in a ten- der that was closed on 5 March. Kospo bought 160,000t of Russian coal at $68-70/t on a cfr NAR 6,080 kcal/kg basis. This could be equal to around $63.50-65.30/t fob with a freight rate at around $4.50- 4.70/t, according to market participants. Two more Russian coal exporters failed to attract Kospo in the tender, being unready to sell that low. The supplied coal should have CV not lower than NAR 5,600 kcal/kg. The material should be delivered in April-May.
