Consumption of juices and nectars in east European countries may soon rival that of their western counterparts. International retailers have targeted these regions due to their improving economy and buying power. In spite of a slowdown in uptake forthe fourth successive year, Germany remains Europe's largest consumer of fruit juices and nectars in terms of both volume and per capita. The average person in Germany is projected to have drunk 40.1 litres last year, according to a report by Wild, the German flavours group. With a population of 82 million, the thirsty Germans are now gulping their way through 3.3 billion litres of fruit juices and nectars. While consumption for most western European countries is levelling out, uptake in eastern Europe,particularly Poland, continues to grow for a number of reasons.
