Fast running rotors of machine tools, fans or turbo engines are operating at such high speeds that their bearing arrangement cannot be made with rolling element bearings or plain bearings. Here active magnetic bearings can be used properly also for the support of bending-elastic rotors. Part I of this paper in the May issue presented the design of active magnetic bearings, their control and already realized applications. Now in this part lithe bearing arrangement of a grinding spindle by active magnetic bearings is described in detail as an typical example.
