Scottish scheme starts

Four bidders start competitive dialogue with Transport Scotland next month for a ￡65 million contract to upgrade junction 1A of the M9. The contract is part of the Forth Replacement Crossing (FRC) scheme and the tender list drawn up by Transport Scotland pits Morrison Construction against three joint ventures: Balfour Beatty/Morgan Sindall; Costain/Sir Robert McAlpine and a pairing of two Irish outfits, John Sisk and Roadbridge. Stewart Stevenson, Scotland's minister for transport, said: "This level of competition will continue to help us ensure the Forth Replacement Crossing represents the best value-for-money for the public purse." After a period of competitive dialogue, the four bidders will submit final tenders in Spring next year and an award is expected by July 2011.
