Time running out for TMO's expensive hazelnut strategy

THE Turkish Grain Board (TMO) has come to the end of its official buying period and must now wait for the Turkish government to indicate whether it can continue to support the hazelnut industry. As of 25 February, the TMO had purchased 364 835 tonnesof hazel-nuts. The TMO's declared intention had been to stop buying for the 2008/09 season by the end of February at 370 000-375 000 tonnes.
