Spreading the benefits of average speed control

If you drive through a major roadworks scheme on UK's motorways and trunk roads, it is likely that your journey will be monitored by average speed cameras, or SPECS as they are more accurately known. For over a decade, SPECS cameras have been used in this application and at more than 250 highways projects throughout England, Scotland and Wales. It is widely understood that average speed control delivers improved safety for construction workers as well as road users, typically making the roadworks period safer than the pre-construction baseline.
